“EVERY GOOD GIRL HAS A CONFESSION”
Is her motto and getting your confession is her game. I first met Cameo King at a business conference in Lansing, MI. Tall and confident, she was hard to miss in a room full of entrepreneurs. Enthralled by her story and her brand, I approached Cameo as I was interested to learn more about Good Girl Radio.
I think I shocked her, because her facial expression seemed to say, “ Who the Hell are you and why are you talking to me?” Not that this is her normal persona or that she has an attitude; I think she really wanted to know who this random person with tons of energy was and why I approached her.
We exchanged information and I told her I am going to be in touch. I really don’t think that she believed me. How many times have you heard, “I am going to contact you,” or “We need to get together” and it never happens? Well! I contacted Cameo and a few weeks later we were having coffee at a cute little coffee shop in East Lansing.
We stayed in contact, and of course I had to include her on the DI Behind the Business series. It would not be the same without her.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Cameo right before she had an intense interview with a local OB/GYN. The topic: “How well do you know your Vagina?” She was excited for the interview and invited me to come along. Talk about confessions!
On Being an Entrepreneur
Why radio?
I always liked to talk. There is a freedom in radio that you cannot get anywhere else. Radio allows you to have a genuine, organic conversation.
What’s your daily routine?
What’s a routine? I just get it done.
How did you get your first guest for Good Girl Radio?
I really think that I just asked. My first guest was a pastor.
A pastor, what did you guys discuss?
Being saved, sex, and being a Christian.
On The Show
“Sometimes my shows are part of the healing process.”
How do you prepare for each show?
Prayer (*she laughs*)

You have some pretty deep topics of discussion on your show, such as “I am friends with the other woman”, “being transparent about your health”, and “I was hurt but never healed.” Where do you get the inspiration for your shows?
I keep my ear to the street. You have to have good relationships with people and know when the time is right. There is always something missing from mainstream conversation that people miss. You only get pieces; I try to bring them all together. I prepare for my shows based on the reputation of other shows. There are times when I know that people have a story, but they have to want to tell the story. Many people are not prepared.
Do you ever disagree with your guest?
Yes! I challenge their thought process based on what I know is fact. It makes for good conversation.
How do you handle anxiety and stress from owning a business?
I vent to my friends.
Have you ever had to take a break and refocus?
I had to take an intentional break 1-2 years ago. I started GGR with a partner. 1-2 years ago she moved and I had to regroup.
Having a partner and then losing a partner is tough. Have you ever wanted to quit?
NO! Because what else would I do?
Fast forward 5 years from now: Where do you see yourself?
I see GGR as a household name.
What do you feel are the misconceptions of being an entrepreneur?
That success is like going up a mountain. But you have to go through rivers, valleys, mud, and hurricanes until you reach success.
What is the biggest fear that you have as an entrepreneur, and how do you manage it?
The biggest fear that I have as an entrepreneur is that this is not going to work out. I fear that I have sacrificed for no reason and I will never see the level of success that I want.
“Every Good Girl has an confession,” do you?
I understand that I have to be more open and vulnerable. I am just not there yet.
Where do you go from here?
UP!

“THERE IS STILL A CONFESSION TO BE TOLD, MY OWN!”
